Republic Day of India and Flags All Over

I (we) had a very Indian weekend. It was a Republic Day on the 26th of January, and enthusiastic company my D works for organized a ceremony of the flag raising and a small celebration of this holiday. We both had day off, so even I went there with my D. What I liked the most was the weather - a little chilled in the morning, but very pleasing by the afternoon.
I was very glad we had to go out in the morning, what we don't do frequently. The air was fresh, the sun was  warm... and the fields were green! On the way back from my D's office, we turned left and had a short ride among the fields of Punjab, the thing I wanted to do for so long, but wished we could simply walk among that green grass.
My dear D advised me to take the picture of these peculiar stacks of grass, prepared by farmers. You know he also participates in material selection for my blog :) There you can also see cow dung "cakes" which are used as fuel, and most probably, as fertiliser.
We were hungry so the McDonalds cafe on the way was to the purpose. It was decorated from outside and inside in the colors of  Indian flag.
We had a modest meal, me - simple sandwich, and my D - Maharajah sandwich  He said that only Maharajahs (kings) eat it :) I had no problem, as Maharajah's wife is queen (Maharani), right?
This is a picture of my Indian attire which is called suit. I don't really like wearing them, but it can be done for special occasions:).
Going back home, I continued in the spirit of a very special day and wanted to show you my beautiful peacock purse, gifted by my MIL. Peacock is a National bird of India.
Our car also bears our intercultural relations signs. My husband made Cross and Om stickers on the sides of the windshield.
This was just a part of my very Indian weekend. In the evening we went out to have South Indian food called dosa, and visited fair on Sunday. I made some meals at home, but probably will tell about all these in the next post. I'm glad I find support in all your kind comments and a true interest in my blog's topics :) Thank you very much!
As a new week has started, wishing you all a wonderful week and a fabulous weekend!

  4. There are so many things I love here!!! I know it's unlikely that I will ever be able to visit India in my lifetime (never say never), so seeing it this way is GREAT! That grass is SO green - beautiful. I am also loving the language thing - I looked at the wrappers from McDonalds, on your D's Maharajah Mac, which is our Big Mac...same thing with your McChicken Sandwich...just little differences in the wording (and I guess I'm surprised a little that they are appear to be written solely in English, too). Your cow cakes are called called patties, here. Your outfit is beautiful, and the peacocks are so special...what a great MIL! Looking forward to more...have a WONDERFUL week - Tanya

    1. Hi, Tanya! I'm so glad to read your long comment and see that you liking India :)
Never say never, I never thought I'd be living in India... but...:)
Don't be surprised, English is a secondary official language here and is widely in use. Me and my husband speak English with each other, it's our uniting language:)
Oh, thanks, I didn't know how to call those cow cakes, now I know :)Patty is also a funny name for them.
Have an awesome week too, Tanya!

  11. Glad to know that you are experiencing every bit of India and the best thing I like is your decision to give balanced thoughts and acceptance of few drawbacks and the statement that every country has its own woes in some or the other form.
I liked the vibrant color of your suit and seems you have impressed your MIL too :)I generally wear leggings under cotton kurtas. you dont have to wear the long scarf/dupatta on it.

    1. Hi, Preeti! Of course, living in any country you will see good and bad, but you actually have to manage and accept or at least, understand.
Well, may be dupatta is the reason I don't like suits much, they really disturb me a lot.:)

  14. Hi pretty Anna

Always ready to experiment and experience new things :) Its overwhelming to see you ever ready to accept new things, learn and understand a completely different culture. Change is only permanent in life. Can only see half o you in the suit. Nevertheless, try KURTIS. You can do away with the duppatta. They are so comfy. One can wear them on jeans too. As always... lovely pics. Its fun to see India through your lens.

    Have a great week too.

  17. Lovely to visit your blog and explore a bit. India is a beautiful place - I imagine it must be a very different pace of life to adjust to. I had a fabulous holiday many years ago exploring Bombay and Goa - I liked the markets in Bombay the best - having an ice lolly from a little man peddaling an old converted bicycle to grind the ice shaving and then shaping the lolly and pouring pink juice on - a swarm of children appeared from nowhere and I gave them some too - fabulous memories of a beautiful. colourful country and people.
