Pretty shaken up by the last events here in India, you must have heard about, I've almost lost all my holiday mood. Really, it's so hard to believe that life is beautiful when you actually witness its ugliness. I wish all such things just stopped happening, people became kind to each other at least, if not loving each other.
However, we can't stop living and celebrating ... and creating. I must say that crocheting really supported me these days as many of you know, it gives peace and order to thoughts and calms you down. I wish all the world would start crocheting, knitting, paper crafting and so on. This would have made people much better.
To carry on with holidays, here are some things which made my days happier, in spite of anything. First, presenting so called ego-project I managed accomplish in between all other. My first crochet bolero shrug. The pattern is by Cindy Coleman you can find here. It appeared to be perfect for the first ever attempt of crocheting the clothing. I modified it slightly in border part and made it broader. Also added border to the sleeves.
The shell stitch is used for the shrug's main parts - back and front.
These two also cheered my up when they came out from the hook :) I'm gifting them tonight to our friends.

The second book made my heart melt. "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus" by L. Frank Baum, illustrated by Charles Santore. You see why I grabbed it straight away when I saw it. The story itself and the illustrations are amazing! I was more than happy to have these two books in my possession now:)
I'm not going to make any list of 2012 achievements and mile stones, they were there, but I simply want to wish everyone a Happy 2013 Year! May your families be healthy, happy and live in peace and joy!
Happy New Year from my snow buddies too:)
I'm sorry to say that I do not know what has happened in India. I haven't been watching or reading the news at all lately. Just quietly spending my days crocheting and enjoying simple moments. I'm impressed by your first shrug. I've made scarves and a shawl, but never anything with armholes or sleeves. :) Your little snowpeople are very cute, too. I'm sure your friends will appreciate receiving such sweet little gifts. I know how you feel about finding wonderful books -- when we travel, I am always on the lookout for books and magazines. Kuwait censors everything so can't find a thing which really is so very ridiculous. Wishing you a wonderful new year, Tammy
ReplyDeleteHi, Tammy! Happy New Year!:)

Wish you a happy 2013 ! Your bolero looks nice and trendy !:)
ReplyDeleteYes the events in the capital shook everyone. This has happened in past too, the only thing now is it happened in the capital and people are standing up for justice. But no one bothers about the poor who have faced it for ages. Anyways, whatever be the justice, it cannot replace the grief of her parents.
I agree, but now at least we paid attention, hopefully, the steps will be taken to prevent, reduce such cases.
DeleteHave a Happy and safe New Year! God bless your family.
Yep...not a very nice year ending. I hope and pray things are better in 13!

ReplyDeleteVery sad about the events in Delhi, here in HK all my friends of non-indian origin also know about it and i felt shameful that such things happened in our country :( Hope there is light at the end of the tunnel tho..
Wishing you a very happy new year 2013!

DeleteYou don't have to be ashamed, India is a great country, and every country has its failures, here or there. We just hope that some actions will be taken as to prevent this in future.

ReplyDeleteHi Anna, You are a book lover too, that is great. Your shrug is looking fantastic and neat. I am sure it looks fab on you. Every country has its share of untoward or horrible incidents. We can only keep calm and carry on. I agree with you that crafting can relax you. The rhythmic movements of crochet keep me sane.

Hello, Anna
ReplyDeleteThe illustrations in the Santa Claus book are amazing. And I adore your crocheting. The shell stitch looks fabulous on the shrug.
And yes! I am very excited about you choosing my blog for the Liebster Award...I hope I can do a good post about it and do it well.
Our holidays were very busy and I came down with the bad cold that went around in the States. I am feeling better now, but need to tidy up the house. I had already committed to participate in the 'Our World Our Art' event about six months ago, so I will have to put of the post about the Liebster Award until the end of February. I am honored that you chose my blog.
I crochet too and have made many hats, scarves, a few fine thread tablecloths, many, many fine thread doilies, and even designed a few of my own afghans, and sold many of my items at a craft show in our city once a year for a twenty year time frame.
This is a colder time of year for the Central part of California. Los Angeles has been colder too but they are usually around 70 Farenheit.
I adore your blog. It is so colorful, and I enjoyed the photo tour of the dancers and restaurant and tight rope walker. It must have been very enjoyable for you too!
Have a lovely rest of the week!
Teresa in California
